4 Thanksgiving Tablescapes Anyone Can Do!

October 30, 2017

I love design...I love all types of design...I love interior design. I love graphic design. I love event design.  I even love (but do not participate) in food design.  What I really really love is designing tablescapes!  Designing a beautiful table for any occasion lets me wrap all my design loves into one beautiful project!

In the spirit of the season, I have created 4 simple Thanksgiving tablescapes anyone can do.   Just pick your style and follow some simple steps and boom! you have a Thanksgiving table that your guests will be talking about until Christmas.

There are 5  tablescape elements to consider when building your table: linen, charger or placemat (or both), napkins, escort cards or plate décor and a centerpiece. Add these elements to a certain style: Traditional, Contemporary, Modern and Elegant.

Traditional: Think of the Thanksgivings from your past.  Use fall colors such as browns, maroons, burnt oranges and cream. The traditional table is filled with natural elements.  In this tablescape, we used a wheat and stick centerpiece, acorn name tags and little squirrel figurines.

Use a pattern table linen with fall colors.  We used paisley, but a floral would have worked here too. We used a solid brown napkin.

Layer your place setting.  We used both a solid color placemat as well as a bronze leaf charger.  We also found these fabulous themed plates and added them for an extra touch.

Our next table is a Contemporary Table.  When I think of "contemporary", I think about what is in style now.  This fall, lighter colors have been treading.  I have seen muted pastels mixed with some bold colors.  I love this color combo with the blue gray linen and the bold orange.

For layering,  I used a rustic wood charger and topped the plate off with a simple glass pumpkin.  A real pumpkin would have been perfect too.

For the centerpiece, I tried both a leaf garland and a fall leaf spray ( I couldn't decide which one to use).  I added small votives and little wood name cards.

At a real table, I would have included a chalkboard menu.

For the Elegant Table, we used creams and gold.  This table would be for a more formal dinner.  The linen is white with a bit of metallic shimmer.

For the centerpiece, I used the metallic leaves to keep the theme of the fall, but class it up a bit.

We used gold leaf chargers on top of a shimmer metallic placemat and topped them off with a white glass pumpkin.  Gold pears would have been perfect here too.  The name cards are in an elegant font and tucked under the pumpkin.

For the final table, we kept itMinimal and modern.  On these tables, less is more.  Keep to mostly white dishes and linens and then just add a pop of color.

The centerpiece is just a metallic box with apples neatly arranged.  We used square plates and stemless wine glasses and pilsners for a more modern touch.

Since we are less formal here, we use menus instead of name places.  Sit where you like!
